An all purpose institutional arbitration body with the status of a non-profit making Association under the Law of 1st July 1901 , created in 1975 at the joint initiative of economic and legal circles, the purpose of the Association Française d’Arbitrage (A.F.A.) is to promote, in France and abroad, the choice of arbitration for the resolution of disputes and to lend its support to the proper conduct of arbitrations subject to its Rules.
Referral to A.F.A. not only offers the advantages of being discrete, economical and prompt, but also guarantees a wide variety of experience amongst A.F.A. members.
Through the supervision, by A.F.A.’s Arbitration Committee, of compliance with these Rules, A.F.A. has been able to do away with the need to establish a list of arbitrators.
Referral to A.F.A., through arbitration clauses inserted in commercial or professional contracts or pursuant to arbitration agreements, provides the signatory with a guarantee of being judged by competent arbitrators who are wholly impartial and independent.
Referral of a dispute to arbitration does not rule out the possibility of reaching an agreement, during and up to completion of the arbitral proceedings.
